Bitcoin halving countdown

Live block height, blocks remaining until the next Bitcoin halving, and what the block reward drops to when it arrives.

Reading the chain…

Why the date is approximate

The estimate assumes the protocol target of ten minutes per block. Real block times vary with how much hashrate is running, and difficulty only re-targets every 2,016 blocks — so the date moves, typically by days, as the halving approaches. Treat it as a window, not an appointment.

What a halving does

Every 210,000 blocks — roughly four years — the reward paid to miners for each block is cut in half. Revenue halves overnight. Electricity costs do not move at all.

Any machine sitting near break-even the day before is deeply unprofitable the day after unless price roughly doubles to compensate. That is arithmetic, not a forecast. What actually happens to miners after a halving works through the sequence that follows.

Why the date moves

The estimate above assumes the protocol target of ten minutes per block. Actual block times vary with how much hashrate is running, and difficulty only re-targets every 2,016 blocks, so the projected date drifts — usually by days — as the halving approaches. Treat it as a window.

If you are mining into one

Model it before it arrives, not after. Halve the block reward in the profitability calculator, change nothing else, and look at the result while you still have time to act on it.
